Level Up Your Intro to Business Course

The Intro to Business Game
Connect theory to practice through a fun hands-on experience.
In this business simulation, students work in teams and compete with each other for market share and profits in a simulated business environment. As they make decisions, they receive feedback that nudges them to think critically. It includes a peer evaluation and grading is automated.
Prior business knowledge is not required.
Your students experience a realistic cross-functional team environment that challenges their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
Jack Anderson, Undergraduate Student at Miami University
“The most challenging part was not knowing what decisions our competition was making. I knew we could make decisions that would benefit us, but what if the other teams made better or more profitable ones? Essentially, it’s the uncertainty that was challenging. In the end, we had to trust ourselves so that we could make decisions confidently.”
How it Works
Collect and Analyze Data
The exercise starts with a story (i.e. case study) about a group of undergrads and their journey in discovering a business opportunity.
In the case study, they learn that there are others pursuing the same opportunity and therefore need to collaborate effectively in analyzing and synthesizing the data to take action and better their odds at success.
Make Decisions
Your students are assigned to specific department roles that are interdependent.
In navigating cross-functional cooperation, each member must contribute unique insights in order for the team to perform well. This provides individual accountability and students learn to grapple with differences of opinion when making an action plan.
Evaluate Results
At the end of each round, results are instantly available to students through the Team Reports, which include a built-in guide that helps your students better understand their performance relative to their competitors on a variety of key business metrics and financial statement reports.
Reflect and Provide Feedback
Throughout the exercise, students complete peer assessments to self-reflect and provide feedback to their teammates.
These peer reviews are immediately accessible to students upon completion. As a result, students have strong visibility into their soft skills and can make behavioral changes that positively impact team dynamics and overall performance.
Our end-to-end support helps you administer, monitor, and grade the exercise at speed and scale with greater impact and less workload.
Professor Harshini Siriwardane, Miami University Farmer School of Business
“At the end of the exercise, Market Games calculated the grades, did the curve, and did the peer evaluation adjustments. With all that done for us, it saves a lot of time in large classes.”
