Our Mission

At Market Games, we envision a future where business education is transformed into an immersive, interactive journey. Our mission is to spearhead this change by delivering dynamic learning experiences that not only engage but empower both educators and students.

In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, there is a growing need for students to nurture critical thinking and teamwork skills, which extend beyond passively consuming information. Market Games addresses this challenge by building teaching and learning tools that help educators transform learning into a highly engaging and effective experience for the new generation of learners.

Recent research published in the National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Educational Psychology found that students learned more when taking part in classrooms that employed “active-learning strategies”. Additionally, gamified learning motivated students to learn more, leading to improved educational outcomes Specifically, those games emphasizing collaboration and competition, which foster a heightened sense of engagement and a drive for mastery, have proven to be especially effective. Additionally, McKinsey points to "Serious Games" – simulations reflecting real-world scenarios – as a groundbreaking approach to bridging the skill gaps prevalent among today's youth.

Building on these insights, Market Games is trailblazing a new direction in ed-tech. We're redefining the textbook narrative by introducing game-based elements that cater to the modern learner's needs. By working closely with educators, we're crafting innovative, collaborative digital solutions designed to elevate learning experiences, making them more relevant, effective, and economical for the learners of today and tomorrow.

Founding History

Market Games' genesis was at the prestigious Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, where our founder, Torsor Kotee, was an MBA student. While there, he identified a significant challenge in the world of higher education - textbooks. Expensive, often ignored, and notably ineffective at cultivating critical thinking, the traditional textbook paradigm simply wasn't working.

Inspired by this observation and fueled by his passion for enhancing the educational experience, Torsor embarked on a research project during his marketing course. After engaging with over 200 undergraduates, Torsor discovered a consistent sentiment: students desired a more dynamic learning resource that was both cost-effective and engaging. The traditional textbook, with its hefty price tag and passive learning structure, wasn’t cutting it.

However, it wasn't just about the students. During his time as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Briginshaw's introductory-level business course, Torsor realized that educators also needed support. Instructors, especially those managing large classes, required innovative tools that not only engaged students but also streamlined their teaching process.

Torsor's experiences, both as a student and TA, gave birth to a vision: an active and collaborative digital platform tailored for business educators. This platform would harness the power of gamification, transforming passive learning into a vibrant, decision-driven experience that nurtures critical thinking and teamwork.
